Review the Scriptures and consider the questions as you reflect on ‘Give Me Oil in My Lamp’
1. What was the purpose of the lamps on the lampstand in the tabernacle, and how does their steady light illustrate God’s provision of clarity and direction for His people?
2. Consider how the lamps were small and gave light only to the space in front of them. How might this relate to the way God guides us? “Then you shall make the seven lamps for it, and they shall arrange its lamps so that they give light in front of it.” Exodus 25:37
3. Have you ever felt that God was only showing you a small part of your “path”? How did that require you to move forward?
4. How does Psalm 119:105 reassure you in those times? “Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Psalm 119:105
5. Why is it vital for your spiritual walk that God’s truth shines clearly in your heart?
6. Let’s look at the words of Jesus when He said, “I am the light of the world.” How would this have resonated with the Israelites, who already understood that the lampstands’ light represented God’s presence and illumination? “Again, Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” John 8:12
7. How does asking God to “fill our lamp with oil” express dependence on the Spirit’s continual work in us, and how can this prayer shape the way you shine with Christ’s light each day?
8. Consider Jesus’ parable about the wise and foolish virgins, where only those with oil in their lamps were ready when the bridegroom came. “Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom.” Matthew 25:1
Closing Reflection: Just as the priests depended on the lampstand’s light to minister, we depend on the Spirit’s illumination to walk faithfully with Christ. God may not reveal the entire path before us, but He gives enough light for the next step, refining us so that our witness shines pure and bright until the day we see Him face to face.
