Join me for The Chosen Bible Study – a Deep Dive into the believer’s journey of obedience.
We often imagine biblical figures as spiritual superheroes—people far above our reach. But Mary and Joseph remind us that God’s story advances through ordinary people with willing hearts. They were not chosen because they were flawless; they were chosen because they were faithful. Their willingness opened the door for God’s extraordinary work.
This study invites us to examine our own hearts. What has God chosen us for? What is He preparing in us? And where might He be calling us to respond like Mary and Joseph—with simple, surrendered obedience?
1. Read Luke 1:26–38
Luke 1:26-38 NASB1995 – Jesus’ Birth Foretold – Now in the – Bible Gateway
What stands out to you about Mary’s response to the angel?
What emotions might she have felt, and what does her willingness reveal about her relationship with God?
2. Consider the cultural risks Mary faced.
How does understanding the real consequences (shame, rejection, even danger) deepen your appreciation for her obedience?
-Take a moment to think. Have you ever faced the type of consequences that caused shame and rejection? Our societal norms are different, yet fear is a very real emotion.
3. Read Matthew 1:18–25
Matthew 1:18-25 NASB1995 – Conception and Birth of Jesus – Now the – Bible Gateway
Joseph obeyed “when he woke up.”
What does Joseph’s immediate obedience teach us about trusting God when the situation feels confusing or costly?
Joseph is described as a “righteous man.” How does a godly character shape the decisions you make in real time—especially when the situation feels difficult, unexpected, or costly?
4. Reflect on this truth:
Mary and Joseph were not chosen because they were flawless; they were chosen because they were willing.
Where have you seen God use willing hearts over perfect ones—in Scripture or in your own life?
5. Read Ephesians 2:10
Ephesians 2:10 NASB1995 – For we are His workmanship, created in – Bible Gateway
What does this verse teach you about your identity as someone chosen for God’s purposes?
What “good works” might God already be preparing in your current season?
6. Ordinary People, Extraordinary God
Where might you have slipped into thinking you must be “super spiritual” or “better” before God can use you?
How does the example of Mary and Joseph challenge that thinking?
7. The Blessing of Obedience
One of the most profound truths of ‘The Chosen Bible Devotional’ is this:
“Willingness opened the door for extraordinary grace. It positioned them to witness unimaginable things – events only God Himself could bring to pass. Their ordinary lives became extraordinary simply because their hearts were open to God’s call.”
If willingness opens the door for extraordinary grace, what blessings might we miss when we hold back, hesitate or resist His leading?
Closing Reflection
In The Chosen Bible Study, we see God does not seek perfect resumes from us. He seeks hearts ready to respond.
Mary and Joseph show us that willingness, not perfection, is the good soil where God plants His greatest work.
What if the extraordinary thing God wants to do in your life requires simple obedience today? What if it is just waiting on the other side? How will you respond? Remember, you are ‘The Chosen!’
