Give Thanks to the Lord
– Loved Steadfastly
This powerful verse does not merely speak to the heart—it draws us into adoration. Before any lesson is learned, it calls for a response, inviting us into worship rooted in who God is and what He has always been.
There are certain truths of God we can know with confidence:
We are loved steadfastly.
Not briefly.
Not conditionally.
Not emotionally.
But eternally.
Because God is good.
Because God is faithful.
Because His lovingkindness endures forever.
And that is a love we can celebrate—not just in one season, but all year long.
The words “give thanks” carry more depth than they first appear. The Hebrew word yada holds the idea of throwing, casting, extending. It paints a picture of open hands lifted toward God—a posture of reverence, offering, receiving, and surrender.
Worship, then, is not confined to words alone. It flows from the heart and is often expressed through the body.
There are moments when my soul naturally longs to lift open hands before Him—not out of obligation,
but because gratitude has nowhere else to go.
As David declared in Psalm 63:4, “I will lift up my hands in Your name.”
We can see that throughout Scripture, this outward expression reflects an inward posture:
I trust You. I honor You. I belong to You.
We give thanks not out of habit, but because He is good.
God’s goodness is not an occasional act—it is His very nature. It is who He is. His character is steady, unchanging, and reliable. He cannot act outside of His goodness. And because His character has never wavered, we are able to trust Him and rest securely in Him.
Scripture invites us to engage with that goodness:
“Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good.”
His goodness is not merely acknowledged; it is experienced. And when we experience Him, it becomes an internal truth—His goodness is our refuge, our covering, our hope. And the natural response is thanks and praise.
Then there is His lovingkindness—His hesed. This is where steadfast love takes on its full weight.
Love in action.
Love that rescues.
Love that redeems.
Love that pursues.
Love that preserves.
What a beautiful picture in Genesis. When Adam and Eve hid in shame, God did not turn away. He searched for them. He called out to them. He covered them. (See Genesis 3) And here is the heart of our worship…
Before the foundation of the world, He had already orchestrated redemption.
This is steadfast love—a love that seeks even when we hide, that covers even when we fall, and that never abandons its promise.
It is firm.
It is fixed.
It is immovable.
From “In the beginning, God created…”
to “From everlasting to everlasting, You are God…”
to “I am the Alpha and the Omega…”
His love has never wavered.
It is not seasonal.
It is not dependent on us.
It is rooted in His eternal nature.
And as I reflected on this truth, worship came naturally.
Tears came.
Hands opened before the Lord in praise and adoration.
Not forced or manufactured praise but purely giving thanks to a good God whose lovingkindness is everlasting.
Isn’t it beautiful when Scripture becomes lived experience?
When we find ourselves quietly praising God, even when alone, simply because He is who He says He is?
And my friend—He is steadfast in His love for you.
