From Eternity Past

From Eternity Past

The Easter story —the cross and the resurrection — were not an afterthought in the New Testament narrative; they were part of God’s redemptive plan from the very beginning.

Long before the empty tomb, long before the cross was lifted on Calvary, God had already set redemption in motion.

Scripture tells us that Christ was foreknown before the foundation of the world. The rescue of humanity was never an afterthought. It was part of God’s eternal plan.

From the earliest pages of Scripture, we see hints of the coming Redeemer.
The promise in Eden,
the sacrifices that pointed forward,
the prophets who spoke of the suffering servant
—all of it was leading to the moment when Christ would step into history to accomplish what God had purposed from the beginning.

Easter is not merely the beginning nor the end of the story.
“It is the point of it all.” —Lisa Harper

This week that we commemorate in history was not unfolding by chance; it was the moment from eternity past when God’s eternal plan of redemption was moving toward its fulfillment.

As you begin this week of Passover, pause and reflect that each minute leading to this moment in history was for one sole purpose:

God loves us and He sent His Son to be the atoning sacrifice so that you and I could be reconciled to Him.

In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation [that is, the atoning sacrifice, and the satisfying offering] for our sins [fulfilling God’s requirement for justice against sin and placating His wrath].” AMP
1 John 4:10

Christ faced this week with resolute obedience, with love, and with absolute purpose. There will be moments of sadness, moments of questioning, moments of wishing that Christ did not have to suffer.

But as you reflect, rejoice, because the redemptive plan of God is fulfilled—and the hope secured at the cross continues to carry us toward the day when our redemption is completed – in eternity future.

“And not only this, but also we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body.”
— Romans 8:23 (NASB)

Praise God for His glorious plan of redemption this week
as you celebrate Easter!
