Did you know that llamas are often used to guard sheep?
Ranchers have found them to be an effective defense against coyotes.
One observer noted,
“When they see something, they put their head up and walk straight toward it.”
A coyote, expecting a vulnerable target, interprets that response as aggression—and often turns away.
There is a lesson here. Read Llama Lessons to keep reflecting.
Have you ever felt fiercely attacked by the enemy?
Scripture is clear in 1 Peter 5:8 that our adversary prowls like a lion, seeking someone to devour.
Yet God, in His wisdom and love, has not left us defenseless.
He has given us everything we need to stand firm—to lift our heads and move forward, not in fear, but in readiness.
We are called to take up the armor He has provided.
The Word of God—the sword of the Spirit.
Righteousness—the guard over our hearts.
Truth and the gospel—the foundation of our heart and beneath our feet.
Faith—the shield against every fiery dart.
Salvation—the protection of our minds.
Prayer—the constant connection that strengthens and sustains.
Ephesians 6:13–18 reminds us:
(Read the entire passage with the above link.)
“Therefore, take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand…”
Arming ourselves is essential—but the directive does not stop there.
James 4:7 gives the command:
(Read the passage with the above link.)
“Submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”
Submission is not weakness; it is alignment.
It is the posture of one who stands under the authority of a commanding King.
I have found that when I study God’s Word, when I know His commandments, and when I am walking with Him daily,
I am armed with His authoritative Word.
And as we know His Word, walk in His truth, and live in daily obedience, we are no longer vulnerable
—we are equipped.
Submission shapes how we respond.
When Scripture calls us to love our enemies, we submit.
When it calls us to pray instead of retaliating, we obey.
These are not passive acts. They are active resistance, standing head-on and head-up against the enemy.
The enemy does not prevail over one who is prepared, grounded, and positioned in Christ.
Like the llama that refuses to retreat, we do not shrink back. We face the attack with confidence
—not in ourselves, but in the One who has already secured the victory.
Resist the enemy, and he will flee.
Prayer
Lord, I stand as Your child, covered and secured in Christ. I choose submission to Your authority and trust in Your Word. Strengthen me to stand firm, to resist every attack, and to walk in unwavering faith. No weapon formed against me will separate me from You.
I am equipped,
I am established,
and I belong to You.
Amen.
